Violin
Ralph Morrison

Ralph Morrison, Concertmaster
Ralph Morrison has been a familiar face here in San Luis Obispo, appearing first as concertmaster in 1988. He served as concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, under both Iona Brown and Christoph Perick, and was for many years concertmaster of the Los Angeles Music Center Opera orchestra. At home in Los Angeles since 1980, he has appeared as concertmaster and soloist with many groups, including the Santa Barbara Symphony and Los Angeles Bach Festival. For nearly 30 years he has been a presence in the Los Angeles studio recording world, only rarely leaving town to tour as concertmaster for two of his favorites, contemporaries on divergent ends of the musical spectrum: Barbra Streisand and Joni Mitchell.

Nina Fan

Nina Fan
Nina Fan joined the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in 1997. She earned her B.A. in French literature from Harvard while studying violin at the New England Conservatory. She won the 2002 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians. She is an active chamber musician in the Twin Cities and participated in the Aspen, Sarasota, Grand Teton and Mainly Mozart festivals.

Takako Masame
Takako Masame
Violinist Takako Masame became a member if the Cleveland Orchestra in 1985, after two years with the Indianapolis Symphony. A native of Tokyo, she came to the Unites States in 1979 and received an Artist Diploma from the New England Conservatory of Music, where she was a student of Dorothy Delay. She also performs as a member of the Amici String Quartet, which is comprised of members of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Mayumi Masri

Mayumi Masri
Mayumi Masri is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. She has performed at numerous chamber music and orchestral festivals, including the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Encore School for Strings and the National Repertory Orchestra. Mayumi attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she received a Bachelor of Music, and was a fellow at the New World Symphony.

Ellen Pendleton Troyer
Ellen Pendleton Troyer
Ellen Pendleton Troyer has participated in numerous music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival and the Tanglewood Music Center, where she was concertmaster, and was awarded the Gustav Golden Achievement Award. At the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Germany, she was chosen by Leonard Bernstein for two consecutive seasons as Concertmaster for the orchestra's European/Russian tours. Ms. Troyer joined the first violin section of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1991, and has appeared as soloist with the BSO numerous times in a variety of styles including classical, jazz, rock, and fiddling. Ellen has also appeared as a concerto soloist with the Florida Symphony, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado. In addition, she is the Assistant Concertmaster of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and is an active chamber musician, appearing throughout the Baltimore area. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School of Music, as a student of Joseph Fuchs and Joel Smirnoff.
Ellen lives in Maryland with her husband John and her five-year old daughter, Carly.
Eva Werner
Eva Werner
Eva Werner graduated from the Toho Academy in Tokyo and became the youngest member of the Tokyo Symphony, Tokyo Baroque and various recording orchestras. Eva came to the U.S. as a member of the North Carolina Symphony and the New Orleans Philharmonic. She has performed as a member of the resident string quartet at the Monteux Festival and the Santa Fe and New Orleans operas. Eva is an active freelance musician.
Jisun Yang

Jisun Yang
Jisun Yang has been the Assistant Concertmaster of the San Diego Symphony since 2005. Before San Diego she was a violinist in the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. She also held the position of Concertmaster of the Spoleto Festival and Opera Orchestra in 2003. Jisun is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Oberlin College Conservatory where she studied with David Cerone, David Updegraff, William Preucil, and Almita and Roland Vamos. Ms. Yang grew up in Chicago, Illinois and began playing violin at the age of six. In 1999 she was a recipient of a Nicolò Gagliano violin from the Stradivari Society, which enabled her to appear as a soloist and chamber musician all over the United States and Europe. She has been a finalist at the Carl Nielsen International Violin competition held in New York City. The performance, held at Merkin Hall, was broadcast live on National Public Radio. She has also won numerous competitions including the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition (2002), The American Opera Society (1997), American String Teacher's Association Competition (1996), G.D. Searle National String Competition (1996), and the Chicago Institute of Music Concerto Competition (1995). Festival appearances include La Jolla Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Festival Mozaic, Encore School of Music, Spoleto Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and Bowdoin Music Festival. 

Second Violin
Paul Severtson

Paul Severtson, Principal
Paul is Co-Concertmaster of the San Luis Obispo Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of the Tolosa Strings Chamber Ensemble. A native Californian and a graduate of Yale College and the Yale School of Music, Paul has performed in numerous symphony, opera, ballet and chamber orchestras; popular, rock ‘n roll and jazz groups; contemporary music ensembles; and as a folk musician with special interest in the Norwegian hardanger fiddle. Paul is the Development Director at Public Radio KCBX FM-90.

Dale Barltrop

Dale Barltrop
Dale Barltrop has held the position of Principal Second Violin in the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra since 2003. He has appeared as soloist with the SPCO in works of Bach, Vivaldi, Locatelli, Piazzolla, Schnittke and Schubert. Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, Dale has appeared at the Mainly Mozart, Swannanoa, Yellow Barn, Kneisel Hall and Tanglewood music festivals and performs regularly as a chamber musician and recitalist in the United States and Australia.

Pamela Dassenko
Pamela Dassenko
Pamela Dassenko began her violin studies as a child in Uruguay and continued her education at the Eastman School of Music. An A.F. of M. Congress of Strings Scholarship winner, she has performed with the Riverside and Redlands symphonies as well as various chamber ensembles. She serves as Co-Concertmaster of the San Luis Obispo Symphony, in addition to running her busy dental practice. Pam has been a member of the Festival Orchestra since 1988.
Clinton Dewing
Clinton Dewing
Clinton Dewing received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School as a student of Joel Smirnoff. He has performed at the Aspen, Tanglewood, Sarasota, Spoleto USA, Spoleto Italy, and Pacific Music festivals, and with the National Repertory Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute. Clinton is an active soloist and chamber and orchestral musician in Jacksonville, where he is a member of the Jacksonville Symphony.
Aurica Duca
Aurica Duca
Aurica Duca is a native of Moldava and has taken the First Prize in the Cornelia Bronzett violin competition and the International Violin Competition of Brasov and was the Grand Prize winner at the Paul Constantinescu International Competition in Romania. Aurelia was awarded the Mayor’s Scholarship of Chisinau, Moldova, and the prestigious scholarship from the Foundation of Beneficence. She has performed in solo engagements with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the National Philharmonic of Chisinau and the National Youth Orchestra in Holland and studied at the A. Casella Conservatory in l’Aquilla, Italy.
Diana Pepelea
Diana Pepelea
Diana Pepelea
started playing the violin at the age of 5 under the guidance of her father. By the age of 15, Diana was a regular prize winner of national and international music competitions. She graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy with a Fine Arts Award in violin performance and went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is pursuing her Master’s degree at Carnegie Mellon University.
Anthony Wong
Anthony Wong
Anthony Wong is a native of Hong Kong and began studying violin at the age of 8. Upon receiving the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund scholarship, Wong continued his studies in the U.S., where he received his Bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, a Master’s degree and doctoral studies from Rutgers University. He was the former Assistant Principal Violin for the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra and was a member of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He has performed throughout Europe and Asia and at Carnegie Hall.
