WinterMezzo: February 23-25, 2018 - Musique Française

The Perfect Weekend Getaway in San Luis Obispo!

French composers in the 20th century reinvented melody through impressionism and neo-classicism.  The melodic works by Gabriel Fauré, Jean Cras, and Albert Roussel were written when jazz sounds from the United States had crossed the pond.  Rounding out this imaginative and evocative program is a jazz riff on the baroque style by living composer Noam Elkies.

NOAM ELKIES - E Sonata for Flute and keyboard in E minor, op. 40

ALBERT ROUSSEL - Serenade, op. 30

GABRIEL FAURÉ - Piano Quartet No. 2 in G minor, op. 45

What to expect at WinterMezzo

At Festival Mozaic's WinterMezzo chamber music series, internationally-renowned artists present educational events, culinary experiences, and intimate concerts in spectacular venues on the California Central Coast.  This season, Music Director Scott Yoo presents two weekends of great works of chamber music and offers three sequential ways to connect to the music and the musicians.  We encourage you to attend all three events in this weekend and experience the special intimacy that comes from Festival Mozaic.

LEARN: Notable Encounter Insight

The WinterMezzo artists will take you on a one-hour tour behind the music of Noam Elkies and Gabriel Fauré.  They will give you insights into the composerss life stories, guide you in what musical elements to listen for, and share their perspectives on the works with artistry and humor.
