Chamber Series: American Music (July 20, 2018)
This wonderful evening consisted of festival artists exploring American and American-inspired chamber music. Joan Tower's Rising and Jennifer Higdon's Autumn Music are paired with an unusual work for bass and actor by the Festival's own Susan Cahill. Interspersed is Barber's iconic quartet which features the original form of his recognizable composition, the Adagio for Strings. Finishing the program is Dvorák’s American quartet, which he was inspired to compose after hearing African-American and other traditional folk melodies while visiting Spillville, IA in the 1890's. This concert was sponsored by Dr. Marti Jorgensen Lindholm and Allan Smith and the Chamber Series is sponsored by Classical KUSC. Thank you to all our musicians for an icredibe show and to the San Luis Obispo United Methodist church for opening up their space for us to use.
